How much does an interior designer cost in Antwerp and Flanders?

Accepted Answer

Fees are agreed per project after the first conversation, never before the plan is understood. For context, Northern Flanders studios publish hourly rates of 100 to 300 dollars and consultations of 200 to 650 dollars (Walden Interiors, 2026); Antwerp studios publish 150 to 400 dollars an hour and full gut renovation design fees from 100,000 dollars (Milieu Studio). Halcyon's proposal states a flat design fee for the scope, with hourly work only for small additions.

Do I need an architect as well as an interior designer for a gut renovation?

Accepted Answer

In Antwerp City, filed work needs a licensed architect or engineer for the permit set. Halcyon plans the home and works alongside the architect from the first drawing, as she did with architect Amir Navon on earlier projects, so the plan, the millwork and the finishes are decided together rather than after the permit.

How do you design around an art collection?

Ten years at Ashmore House in London and Trieste taught Halcyon to look at a wall before a sofa. Lighting, wall planes, sight lines from each seat and storage for rotation are planned first; the furniture follows. How long does a project take, and when should I call?

A full gut renovation in the old quarter runs about ten to twelve months from the first design to the final walkthrough (Corniel Construction, 2026); a the river district house without structural work is shorter. Call before the architect's drawings are final: the storage, the kitchen and the lighting are cheapest to move on paper.

What does full service interior design include, and are you a designer or a decorator?

Accepted Answer

A designer. The service covers space planning and moving walls, storage planned into the walls, working drawings, carpentry drawings for every built-in, material and lighting selection, contractor tenders, site visits through installation, and then the furniture, the styling and the placement of the art.

What happens in the first consultation?

Accepted Answer

Halcyon comes to the home or the plans with a tape measure and questions: how you live, what must stay, what the budget is and what the art needs. You leave with a first reading of what can move and a proposal for the scope and the fee follows within a week.

Question 8

Can you work with a co-op board, or on a new-construction house?

Accepted Answer

Yes to both. For a co-op, the alteration agreement and the board package are prepared with the architect; board approval typically takes 60 to 90 days (MyHome). For a new house in the river district the studio joins at the framing stage so the millwork and the lighting are in the walls before they close.

Do you work in Israel and in Hebrew?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The studio was founded in Israel in 2016, completed twenty-one projects there before moving to Antwerp in August 2022, and still takes projects in Trieste and the Sharon, in Hebrew or English.
